1967 Shelby Cobra - $39,500 - Lawrence, MA - 1967 Shelby CobraAmerican Classics Replica5 spd351 Windsor.4713 milesFinancing is AvailableLike many British specialist manufacturers AC Cars had been using the smooth refined Bristol straight 6 engine in its small volume production including its AC Ace 2 seater roadster. This had a hand built body with a steel tube frame and aluminum body panels that were made using English wheeling machines. The engine was a pre World War II design of BMW which by the 1960s was considered dated. Bristol decided in 1961 to cease production of its engine and instead to use Chrysler 331 cid 5.4 L V8 engines. Although untrue it is commonly believed that AC was left without a future source of power and that American ex racing driver Carroll Shelby saved the company from bankruptcy. AC started using the 2.6 litre Ford Zephyr engine in its cars. In September 1961 Shelby airmailed AC a letter asking them if they would build him a car modified to accept a V8 engine. AC agreed provided a suitable engine could be found. He first went to Chevrolet to see if they would provide him with engines but not wanting to add competition to the Corvette they said no. Ford however wanted a car that could compete with the Corvette and they happened to have a brand new thin wall small block engine which could be used in this endeavor. It was Ford's 260 in HiPo 4.2 L engine a new lightweight thin wall cast small block V8 tuned for high performance. Ford provided Shelby with two 260ci engines. In January 1962 mechanics at AC Cars in Thames Ditton Surrey fitted the prototype chassis CSX0001 with a 260ci Ford V8; the 221ci was never sent. However early engineering drawings were titled AC Ace 3.6. After testing and modification the engine and transmission were removed and the chassis was air freighted to Shelby in Los Angeles on 2 February 1962. 4 His team fitted it with an engine and transmission in less than eight hours at Dean Moon's shop in Santa Fe Springs California and began road testing.Chassis numbering:AC's system was as follows: The Ace chassis numbers read AEX... A being the car series and X being for export with left hand drive. Later with the introduction of the Bristol engine the chassis numbers ran BEX... When switching to the Ford 2.6 engine the Ace chassis numbers ran RS... for Ruddspeed as Ken Rudd may have been influential in the choice of engine. The first Cobra chassis was left hand drive and given the next letter in the alphabet i.e. C. Therefore the numbers ran CSX2... for all the export Cobras. Otherwise the prefix was CS2.... The four following numbers ran from 2000 sequentially. When the MKIII Cobra was built the identification ran from CSX3000 for left hand drive export. There were other numbers used such as COB.... and COX....Production proved to be easy since AC had already made most of the modifications needed for the small block V8 when they installed the 2.6 litre Ford Zephyr engine including the extensive rework of the AC Ace's front end. The most important modification was the fitting of a stronger rear differential to handle the increased engine power. A Salisbury 4HU unit with inboard disk brakes to reduce unsprung weight was chosen instead of the old ENV unit. It was the same unit used on the Jaguar E Type. On the production version the inboard brakes were moved outboard to reduce cost. The only modification of the front end of the first Cobra from that of the AC Ace 2.6 was the steering box which had to be moved outward to clear the wider V8 motor.

1965 Shelby Cobra - $35,995 - Charlotte, NC - There isn't a gearhead alive who hasn't tossed around the idea of building his own Cobra. Sure it's iconic but the appeal is still as visceral today as it was 50 years ago: 2 seats a big V8 and little else the Cobra is perhaps the purest distillation of automotive performance yet devised by man. But why waste the time and money building your own when great Cobras like the Factory Five are available for less than the cost of doing it yourself. Factory Five got the formula right and the proportions of their Cobra are pretty darned good. If you've never driven an original (almost nobody has) then you don't know how comfortable the Factory Five is in comparison. There's more room in the footbox for those of us with larger than size 7 sneakers more legroom and they achieve all this without altering the instantly-recognizable Cobra shape. They also lay down some pretty darned good fiberglass so the cars are durable as well as iconic. This one was nicely finished by the pros at American Rod & Performance and with a pedigree like that you know the workmanship is right. 2000 Toyota Supra Silver paint that has a great shine are all part of this package along with a set of proper black stripes that stretch from nose to tail in an unbroken line. There's a matching black roll hoop side pipes and jacking stubs just so you don't mess up the monochromatic look. Those are genuine black leather buckets inside accurate reproductions of the original Cobra chairs. Simpson harnesses are probably a good idea when there's this much performance under you right foot and it'll take a while to adjust to the mind-altering levels of acceleration this car delivers. Other correct details include a wood steering wheel and forward-canted Mustang shifter and I'm guessing Ol' Shel' would have preferred these Auto Meter Ultra Light gauges to the ancient Smiths he was forced to use. It's definitely basic without even a heater or radio but that's the whole point. Guys who put heavy stereos in their Cobras just don't get it-sidepipes are the ultimate soundtrack. Just the necessities and nothing else. This Factory Five uses the popular Mustang 5.0 as a donor which means that not only are the mechanicals durable but every upgrade available for a Mustang is a virtual bolt-on. This one offers an .030 over 302 (actually a 307 now) and a Tremec TKO 5-speed as well as a Holley Systemax induction system and heads a Lunati cam and 24 lb-hr injectors to keep it fed. Out back 3.73s in a Mustang 8.8-inch axle ensure staggering acceleration while coil-over shocks up front keep it planted in the corners. Handsome color-matched ROH alloys look a bit like vintage Halibrands and wear 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Yokohama performance radials. This awesome Factory Five Cobra offers two seats and no waiting. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom. 1965 Shelby Cobra - $36,995 - Dallas/Fort Worth, TX - As car guys we've probably all thought about building a Cobra replica because quite honestly there's no more fun to be had on four wheels than one of these. But then reality sets in and we realize that it's smarter both from a time and financial standtpoint to simply buy someone else's finished car. So here's your chance at a good one. Factory Five has Cobra building down to a science and the stuff coming out of their factory is consistently the highest-rated "do it yourself" Cobra in the industry. The body is one of the more accurate representations of the original big block Cobra and thanks to the economies of scale they have state-of-the-art equipment building the bodies. These aren't laid up in some third-world shop they're done in a factory to standards that would embarrass the Bowling Green Corvette factory in say 1980. The builder reports that he spent more than $10000 on the paint job alone and it shows. The deep blue is right for a Cobra but this one is so iridescent that it looks radioactive. White stripes should be standard equipment and extend into all the jambs indicative of a careful painter. The prep work is outstanding and the overall finish is more show car than track weapon so use care out there. The interior is where Factory Five deviates from the original recipe but the changes are all for the better. First of all there are supportive high-back buckets that are vastly better for the kind of driving you're likely to do in this car. Forget the slippery stools of the original these grip you like Velcro ably assisted by 5-point harnesses. The fat leather-wrapped wheel feels right and offers a Factory 5 logo in the center. A forward-canted shift lever recalls the original but now controls a World Class T5 5-speed overdrive transmission. Auto Meter supplied the vintage-looking gauges and it shows just 8082 miles since it was completed so it's sorted and ready to rock. The real reason you build a Factory Five Cobra is because of the massive 5.0 Mustang aftermarket. You can easily put one of these together that will humiliate an original 427 on the street yet it will behave and run like a production car. This one has a 5.0 out of a 1991 Mustang augmented with an E303 cam ported heads oversized mass-air sensor and custom long-tube headers that dump into those sidepipes. It's neatly finished with Cobra valve covers and a custom painted intake and there's plenty more if you want to dip into the parts catalogs. The transmission is a T5 as I mentioned and spins a set of 3.55 gears in the Mustang 8.8 out back. Custom A-arms up front support a 4-link in back giving this car moves to match its look and the Halibrand-look wheels are exactly right wearing staggered BFG radials. Forget building your own. Priced less and ready to rock today this is what you really want. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. For more information please call (817) 764-8000 or toll free (855) 877-2707.

Stk. 1669  1965 Shelby Cobra Replica

Perhaps the most impressive Cobra replica we've ever represented, this one unquestionably tops the list. Just the exhaust note alone will be enough to jump-start your adrenalin pump in a nanno-second.  Built by "Classic Roadsters", the attention to detail is superb. The all-fiberglass body is dressed-out in a dazzling shade of blue, and accented by an all-business white stripe.  Massive side pipes adorn the bottom half of the body constituting an appearance of muscle and power.  Front and rear discs, surrounded by American Racing mags on all four corners, completes the impressive appearance package.  Under the hood lies an imposing 390 cubic inch FE engine producing an estimated 400 plus horse power, hooked up to a Top loader 4-speed manual transmission and an Auburn 4:11 posi-traction rear end. The resulting power-to-rate ratio of this beast is totally insane.  The all-business cockpit provides am/fm stereo with cassette player, tilt wheel and leather buckets.  This is NOT a car for the weak-of-heart. This is a serious vehicle which reflects mind blowing performance and classic Cobra styling. This is a car you'll treasure for a lifetime.  Call 800-650-1055 or visit our website at www.autobarnclassiccars.com for more information.  ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS"

1966 Shelby Cobra - $53,995 - Atlanta, GA - This 1966 Cobra replica is about as close as you're going to get to the real thing without spending oh about three-quarters of a million bucks. Based on a Contemporary Cobra kit which is widely regarded as one of the most accurate Cobra reproductions available it packs a genuine Ford FE 428 a picture-perfect paint job and that undeniable appeal of the most potent roadster ever built. Built in California in 1999 this stunning Cobra still looks fresh. The body molds for the Contemporary kit were pulled from CSX3045 a real 427SC so the shape and contours are exact. The finish quality of the fiberglass is superior to most kits and thanks to the exceptionally strong methods of construction Contemporary uses it's as solid as a rock. Traditional Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes is iconic on the sleek little roadster and without knocking your knuckles on the bodywork there's just no way to tell if this is a reproduction. There are few signs that this snake has been driven with the paint showing extremely well-even the rocker panels and areas behind the rear wheels are devoid of road rash. Other details include front and rear bumpers a real LeMans-style fuel filler and a roll hoop behind the driver. Inside it's standard Cobra fare with basic black leather buckets simple black carpet and minimalist door panels. The whole point is simplicity and distilling the driving experience down to its barest essence and at that the Cobra excels. Vintage Smiths gauges keep an eye on the engine just as they did 50 years ago and that forward-canted shifter lever is a Mustang unit installed backwards; as strange as it looks it works really well. Testing on a fleet of Cobra replicas Motor Trend editor Mac DeMere commented that "Contemporary's roadster is about as close as you'll come to the original Cobra." That means no A/C no heater and no radio with the only alterations being Simpson safety harnesses and battery cut-off in the trunk. The engine alone is probably worth a significant portion of the car's asking price: it's a real-deal 428 dressed the way Ol' Shel' himself used to do it. From the airbox that jams air down the carburetor's throat to the expansion tank for the cooling system the top end looks suitably Cobra-esque. Chrome valve covers and polished aluminum inner panels add some flash and for functionality a big electric cooling fan and an original-style oil cooler have been fitted. A correct 4-speed manual is part of the deal feeding a Jaguar independent rear end with inboard disc brakes which is about as close to the original as you're going to get today. Throttle response in any gear is immediate and the bellow from the side pipes is worth the price of admission all by itself. Correct Halibrand-style wheels have been fitted with modern radials 265/50/15s up front and 305/50/15s in back. If you want the most accurate Cobra experience available this is the car. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.

1965 Shelby Cobra - $51,000 - lexington, KY -

1965 Shelby Cobra Superformance.  Low mileage, I'm the second owner.

Ford Racing engine (full build details available), with Super Cobra Jet Aluminum heads, true Ford 460 two bolt main block, Single pane intake manifold, Ford Racing Hi-Po hydraulic camshaft. Engine is rated at 550 hp and 545 ft./lbs.

Tremec 5 speed gear box. The car was assembled in late 2003, early 2004. The engine was built in July of '03 by Ford Racing and dropped in the car as a brand new engine. Does burn or leak oil, it's completely dry underneath (see pictures). Always garaged kept, never driven in the rain.

I get compliments every where I go, from everyone. The way it looks, it sounds and the fact that it's in perfect condition, this car draws a ton of attention! I've had numerous neighbors think a storm was rolling in when I let it idle in the driveway.

Minor scrapes in the front and one small chip inside the driver's side door jamb but otherwise flawless paint. Finished in Light Silver, and I have the paint code for the car from Superformance.

Tires are like new in the front and have 7 mm in the rear, so almost as good as the fronts.

Titled as a 1965 Ford. Car number is SP01720. Clear Kentucky title in my name.

Reluctantly selling to finish up a race car.

Any questions, please ask. I'll assist in any way possible with shipping, but shipping is at the responsibility of the buyer. Inspections are welcome, there are many great shops in Lexington that could look at it for you.

No trades, no offers to help sell the car.
